An Iconic Solution - Maximising minimal intervention at The Dentistry Show 2017

White spot lesions can have various different causes, including fluorosis and localised areas of enamel demineralisation. They can also be early signs of dental caries. Whatever the cause, once the problem is addressed many patients seek solutions to remove the white spot lesions and improve the appearance of the teeth, particularly when the lesions are clearly visible in the anterior segment.

In line with modern concepts, a minimally invasive approach in managing and treating white lesions is widely preferred, opposed to more traditional methods of prepping the affected area and restoring with composite or even laminate veneers. A more recent solution, however, has been resin infiltration therapy, which is designed to restore the natural translucency of the white spot lesion with a low viscosity resin.

Richard Field comments “In the past, patients who have been affected by white spot lesions on their teeth have either had to live with them or resort to invasive dental procedures to hide them. Modern advancements in dental materials and techniques mean that white lesions can now be removed in a truly minimally invasive way using resin infiltration.”

Richard will join the many high calibre speakers at The Dentistry Show 2017, speaking in the BACD Aesthetic Dentist Theatre. His session will be entitled “The iconic solution – Maximising minimal intervention”, about which he says:

“My lecture will look at how resin infiltration can be used in every day practice to great effect in the treatment of superficial and deep white spot lesions. I’m excited to share the latest information on white lesion removal, discussing simple techniques that dentists can implement in their practices on Monday morning.

“I hope delegates attending the session will gain tips on how to better recognise the different types of white spot lesions and their aetiology. I will also cover the science behind the resin infiltration technique and how to treat both simple and complex cases. Other topics will include how to deal with brown lesions, isolation techniques, time management and costs.”

Speaking alongside Richard in the BACD Aesthetic Dentist Theatre will be industry-leading names such as Elaine Halley (Programme Chair), James Russell, James Goolnik, Jameel Gardee, Christopher Mcconnell and Andrea Shepperson. They will cover a broad spectrum of topics from whitening to preventative dentistry, composites and digital smile design, offering their own knowledge, skills and experiences to help delegates up their game.

Through this and many other theatres, hours of verifiable and general CPD will be available for dentists, dental hygienists, therapists and nurses. Smaller features will cater for those working within the various disciplines, including the ADI Implant Theatre, Short-Term Orthodontics Lounge, EndoLounge and Facial Aesthetics Theatre.

The exhibition will also play host to more than 400 dental manufacturers and suppliers, with on-stand mini-lectures, live demonstrations of the latest products, materials and technologies, and some fantastic deals to suit every practice’s budget. The Professional Hub will be the perfect platform from which to meet representatives from many leading dental associations, societies and academies and discover more about membership benefits available to you and your team. These will include the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI), British Association of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD), British Association of Dental Therapists (BADT), British Endodontic Society (BES) and the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT), among many more.

With cosmetics now relevant to every field of dentistry, learning the latest techniques and materials is essential for every dentist. Make sure you don’t miss the BACD Aesthetic Dentistry Theatre at The Dentistry Show 2017.

Richard concludes, “The BACD Aesthetic Dentist Theatre 2017 features a fantastic line-up of speakers and I am honoured to be a part of it. The Dentistry Show is always a very enjoyable outing in the dental calendar and I look forward to not only attending this time, but also contributing to the programme.”

The Dentistry Show and DTS 2017 will be held on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th May at the NEC in Birmingham.
